Staying healthy while dining out

Yes you can stay healthy while dining out.

One of my favorite places to eat that’s delicious and healthy is the Toast Society in Las Vegas. If you haven’t gone, you need to go. They have amazing gourmet avocado toasts, refreshing coffees, smoothies and a few health and wellness products they pick by hand.

Eating healthy while dining out can be challenging if you don’t go to a place that is full of healthy options, but you can definitely choose options at other places so you can stay on track. You can sometimes be tempted to get thrown off if you go with a group of friends who might not have the same goals as you but you can definitely make it work.

Here are a few tips you can do to stay on track while dining out

  1. Skip the bread. Unless you know you are low on carbs for the day, don’t bother filling up on bread especially when the server will just keep refilling it until your food is ready.
  2. Anything grilled and steamed is always a safe way to go. Ask your server about dishes you may have questions about.
  3. Put the dressing on the side. This is where a lot of calories can be hiding. In the dressings or even some sauces so it’s best if you put it on the side and then you can control how much you put on.
  4. Watch the portions. Some places will give you so much food that it’s easily more than one portion so if you can do a lunch size or even take half of it home, you’ll be in a good spot.
  5. Share dessert. If you want dessert go for it, but don’t go overboard as a slice of cake or cheesecake could be up to 1200 calories alone for 1 slice.

Most importantly, enjoy and have a good time.  If it’s one night you want to go out then by all means one meal won’t throw you off on your plan, especially if you are eating sustainably to begin with but just know you have options if you do want to reach your goals faster.

If you are still stuck on diets and falling off track each week because you don’t have a long term plan, reach out and I would love to help get you back on track.
